Agent downloading /Ldlogon/lddwnld.dll many times

Hello.

Under which circumstances would a Windows LANDesk agent v9.5 SP1 download the /Ldlogon/lddwnld.dll file from the CORE?

We are having some issues with our CORE and are therefore analyzing IIS logs. We can see that a subset of devices is performing the following action very often:

HEAD /Ldlogon/lddwnld.dll - 80 - <Device_IP> - 200 0 0 1045

We have seen examples of devices requesting the file several hundred times within a few hours even when the CORE and client are on the same LANDesk patch level.

Thanks in advance.

Question about delivery method

Hi team.

I need simply explanantion about delivery method. To be more specific my question concerns policy delivery method.

Assumption:

The software distribution task based on policy delivery method. The task is targeted to a normal query in LANDesk, or LDAP objects, or device group.

We assign the task to a  normal query, or LDAP objects.

1. Do we need to schedule the task to repeat for specific time (1 hour for example) so that hit all new devices which appear in query, or a new devices just added in LDAP query?

2. In what time new device appear in scheduled task, when we have starded task one time, without repeating?

3. Is there any good practice to use "repeat" option with POLICY delivery method, or it makes sense only with PUSH?

As I understand In this delivery method we don't need schedule task to repeat every specific time until any changes were made in the package?

Am I correct?

Portal Manager How to

I am looking to leverage the portal manager in my organization on Landesk 9.5 sp1 to empower users to install approved software packages on their own to reduce demand on the Helpdesk.

The image will help give an understanding.

You can see that I am using the left most menu for applications. I am looking for a better way to organize as ultimately I suspect there will be 10-15 applications here.

Second, I have not been able to determine what the center pane under name, type, description etc. is for.

Can someone give me an example of how this portal could leveraged? I picturing major headings on the left under launch pad like Office Apps, Backup Ups etc that would populate a selection to the center screen for choices. Does this make sense?

Ultimately I am in need of some resources and insight into how to use this part of Landesk and what it can truly do.

Thanks in advance,

Prerequisit in Package to identify if the Product Version is higher

$

I want to check with Prerequisit query in my MSI Package if the Software is already installed, but with higher version. It is no problem to get this information and the query detected it right. But the return code for clients which does not meet prerequisits is failed. I want that client sees that the installed product version is higher and do nothing. Actually it is correct that it is failing, but my package is in a package bundle. So I want if the product version is higher do nothing and go to the next package. Unfortunately it fails and the client stops at this point. The normal detection rule does not work if the installed package is a higher version than the version in my package, so it wants to install and fails.

Is there a way I can solve this with the Prerequisit Section or I have to wrap my package in a script?

Have you any ideas?

Thank you for help.

Kevin

Uninstall Association does not work for Package Bundles?

$

We set up for all our Packages an uninstall Association. Now we made a few Package Bundle, which we deploy for selected Clients. Then we make a policy for these bundle. The installation works fine, but if we remove a client from this Task, the uninstall won't happen.

If I watch the sdclient.log from this task, it says begin Policy.Required.PortalRemoval. After a few seconds I can see in the log, task comleted successful, but the Software is still installed.

The funny thing is, when I deploy only one Software with the Delivery Method, install it and the remove the client from the task. The uninstall will work correctly.

Do you have made any experience with this behavior?

Kevin

Selecting Snooze Installs the Package Immediately

Problem:

When using a policy delivery method with Software Distribution your clients are seeing a pop up stating "The package installed successfuly" and the package installs immediatly without actually snoozing.

Cause:

When you use the option "Show successful or fialed status to end user" is selected there is a bug in the code that does not execute our snooze option and move straight to installation

2014_02_10_10_16_13_Server_2008_R2_9.5_VMware_Workstation.jpg

Resolution:

We are releasing a base patch soon which will address this in SP2 but in the meantime deselecting the option above will return snooze functionality.

Hi I can't find way to remove some "trash" from my LANDesk system..

During testing & presenting delivery methods I made couple of categories and shortcuts for Desktop manger under Launchpad & Software Deployment Portal..

All works fine, but i have one shortcut (seznam.cz) that is never being deleted no mather what I do..

What I already did:

I deleted folder sdmcache from client PC

I deleted all existing links from Link Management

I even deleted the category it belongs to (WWW), but it's still there even inside the nonexisting category

.. my category list:

Finally I even tried to uninstal LANDesk agent, clear registry and folders on this client PC, but after installing agent again, the shortcut is back right after  !?

Any other idea please?

Hi all,

Does anybody has an easy way of migrating distribution packages from LDMS 9 to 9.5? I've tried doing an Export from LDMS 9 and an Import to LDMS 9.5 however, during the import step I get the following error:

Items were rejected because of a version mismatch error.  The first 3 numbers in this assembly version (9.50.0.0) do not match the items' (9.0.3.42).

Gateway Appliance downloads extremely slow

Hi everyone,

We are on Landesk 9.0 SP3 and are experiencing extremely slow download speeds when downloading packages and patches through the Management Gateway. We tested downloading a 43MB Internet Explorer 10 package through the software portal, and it took upwards of 45 minutes to download. This was with just one machine trying to downlaod on a connection that is off our production network. I wondered if there are settings we need to check to increase download speeds through the gateway, or if there are other troubleshooting steps that need to be taken. We have a number of machines right now that are remote and are failing to install files and patches distributed by policy, They get an error stating that not all of the files could be downloaded. and we suspect it is because they are timing out during the install. I poked around the gateway appliance settings and settings in the Landesk Management console but didn't see anything I could use to increase speeds. Any suggestions to torubleshoot and/or fix?

Thank you so much for your help,

Josh

Query the LD client to see if deepfreeze is frozen before pushing software

$

Hi I have created a .exe software distribution and we use deepfreeze on the workstations. I have the software distribution check the rgistry to see if the workstation is frozen or thawed. If frozen to quit the install. This works fine but the LD server still pushes all the files to the client first. I want to make it so it first checks the status and if frozen stop and not push the other software.

I have created a small .exe software distribution and then added a dependence package for the other software and it still downloads all the files before stopping the install.

Thanks for your help.

How to build a Cisco AnyConnect mobility client distribution package with built in profile

Anyone create a a Cisco Anyconnect distribution package when complete has the built in hostname and AD child domain ?

It is pretty straight forward to create a .exe that can be distributed but this lacks hostname to connect to and the AD domain the account uses.

When you create the Cisco Anyconnect .exe using the Web portal a exe file is created but also a Cisco folder is copied to

%LOCALAPPDATA% C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local . This holds information relating to the host to connect to and the AD domain. Is it possible using Landesk to copy a folder in a share to a user environment variable path like %LOCALAPPDAT% ?

Manage Script in Portal Manager

Hi,

Is there a way to provide managed/custom script in the Portal Manager? Or is the only possible way to create a batch package and make it available for the Portal Manager?

If I could provide managed script, I could work with variables and make the whole thing a little bit dynamic.

Exclude members of a device group from software distribution using a Query

I need to send out software to all computers in the organization, with the exception of a group of about 100.  I would like to keep these computer names in a device group, and have a query designed to select all computers but these.  I've been building queries for a while now with no problem, but I cannot figure out how to do this.  It certainly would be easier than having to pick those 100 or so names out of the total list of computers that need to be in a scheduled task.

Content replication failing with 205 characters in path

I have files that consistently fail in content replication that have a path length of 205 characters including the file name and spaces.  According to this:

http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-29026

the length should be 215 before it fails to replicate.  I am running 9.5 SP2.  Has the limit changed?

Thanks.

Has anyone had any success pushing the click to run Office 365 installation to users in there domain. I am having an issue with push. I have downloaded the ODT(office deployment tool) and the click to run Office 365 sources. I have created a bat file to run the setup.exe and configured my configuration.xml file but it will not run in LanDesk.

Windows 7 Software Install Problem

$

Hi,

I'm hoping somebody can help me please?

I've created a script to install some software, so that it can be deployed through our LANDesk Suite. We are using LANDesk Management Suite 9.50.2.6.

The script works successfully and installs the software on Windows XP desktops, but will not install the software on Windows 7 desktops. The script will only run on a Windows 7 desktop if you manually log on to the desktop, run a command prompt as the administrator and then run the script from there. It seems like the Windows 7 user access control is preventing the script from running as it doesn't work from a non elevated command prompt.

Is there a way to run a script with elevated administrator rights on Windows 7? I've tried running the LANDesk job using alternative credentials with admin rights but it still won't run. I've also tried using the runas command, but it doesn't seem to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

H
