Scheduled task hangs in active state when an agent cannot be found

I have a scheduled task that I am using to distribute power policies to 25 PCs. As long as I do them a few at a time making sure the selected machines are on, it completes as usual. If I include one where the agent cannot be found, the entire task hangs and cannot be cancelled as there is no longer option available to cancel. At this point the scheduler service needs to be restarted to stop the process. Any thoughts? LDMS 9.5.1
